History: MemberworksSource of version: 316 (current)~~#FF0000:Welcome to the FAQ.~~
**Note - During 2007 At Home closed down most/all ways of signing up... at least ones that we know about. So any mention in this wiki about ways to sign up are most likely no longer valid. We keep the description of them here just in case At Home opens up these membership methods again. This FAQ is designed to provide you with all the information you need to take full advantage of the gift card clubs first described on [http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92936|Felix's post] at redflagdeals.com This FAQ uses wiki software which allows anyone to add information to it. Please DO add any information you come across concerning the clubs. Please DO NOT delete information provided by others - unless it is inaccurate. __Discussion of these pages__ I'd like to propose that all links to non-memberworks or RFD sites be banned. > Don't see the logic in this, unless you are from RFD. Let's keep the Wiki non-partisan with non-biased information. >> I agree. Stop posting links to your sites. If you have info to share .. share it here. There is one user in particular who continues to add links to his sites with the promise of additional information in order to direct clicks on his referral links. If it is valid information that he wished to share, he could easily add it here. It is ironic that he initiated the complaints about people posting signup links back in May. I suspect it was only to reduce competition to his links that he had already posted. Now he is even hosting domains that intentioanlly mislead people into believing they are Memberworks sites. __Recent Program Changes__ In July, 2006 they removed Petro Canada (PC) and Home Depot (HD) cards from most 'monthly-paid' (like Vista Print, Free Ipods and All Posters) signups for Lifestyle Rewards and At Home memberships. (brunes) > I just signed up for the LifeStyles+ program in October 2006 using a link posted in RFD, and it had PC and HD both, max. $125 / month. Best to sign in to your memberships and see if you were affected. IF you were - you are out of luck on those 2 types of cards. You can still get PC and HD cards from the At Home club by signing up for an annual-paid membership through MBNA and Capital 1. You can also get the PC and HD cards when you take the Lifestyles referral link from the RedFlag Deals, and other sites. It will sign you up for Lifestyle Rewards+ (Plus) and after that signup is completed it will throw you a popup for an At Home membership. Both those memberships have PC and HD cards available. See further on in the FAQ for a description of both programs. In August, 2006 they brought out Plus (+) versions of the programs. Details are still coming in - please add to this FAQ as you find out what the new programs offer. Information on Lifestyle Rewards+ is now added to this FAQ below. So far it appears the + programs limit you to 5 cards per retailer per month with an annual limit of 30 cards per retailer. Check out [http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92936|Felix's post] at redflagdeals.com for up to the second information. ! ~~#FF0000:__Executive Summary__~~ Here is a 'ColesNotes' summary of what the 20% off gift card clubs (Athome, Lifestyle Rewards, Galleria) are all about: From what we can figure out - the parent company is called Memberworks and is a subsidiary of the US based MWI or Dealpass Corporation - which appears to be a marketing company that offers 'clubs' where you pay a membership fee and get to buy gift cards at a 20% discount. You can't signup directly for these clubs - you usually get a popup offering you to join when you buy something from another site - or - through a personal 'referral link' - which is a big no-no here and on RedFlag Deals (and please don't ask me for one as I don't have any). Further on in this FAQ are descriptions of each of the 3 Memberworks clubs along with suggested ways of joining the clubs and a list of all the cards you can buy through these clubs. In a nutshell - Sign up online & you can then order up to $500 of The Bay or Canadian Tire or Home Hardware (and so on) gift cards a year. Click on the following link to see the summary table of gift cards ((Memberworks Card Summary)). Get 20% off those cards as a rebate to your credit card during the next month after ordering. There is a membership fee for each club but that fee can be reduced or eliminated by sending in the mail-in rebates the clubs provide. Need more than $500 a month? Then get your sibling/wife/husband/grandparent (see we are still useful!) to sign up as well. ..OR.. if you have more than one credit card - clone yourself as Joe Smith, Joseph Smith and so on (the clubs restrict membership to one per person/household but if you have an inventive mind you can find a way around this. You pay full price for these gift cards when you buy them from the club - but at the start of the next month you get 20% rebated back to you on the credit card you used to buy the cards on. The cards are ordered online or over the phone and are mailed or couriered to you (at no charge). __How Can They Do That?__ You mean, give you 20% back on gift card purchases plus all those mail-in rebates. We have no idea. Some suggest this a Ponzi scheme.() You do get a certain satisfaction when you are pumping gas into your car & you know that you will get 20% of that purchase back from the company that tells you they only make 2% profit on gas sales. Each club you join has a monthly membership fee which ranges around $15-$20 a month. The mail-in rebates offered by each club will pay for most of or more than your membership - provided you send them in. As well, the referral site you use to join the clubs typically offers a $25 gift card bonus for joining. Finally, some times you will be offered a 'final billing offer' (FBO) where you pay one more monthly fee and get the next 12 months membership for free. More about all of this later on in this FAQ. But wait, ..... there's more.... The clubs have many other retailers that they offer cards for - ranging from Canadian Tire to Zellers. Click on the following link to see the summary table of gift cards ((Memberworks Card Summary)). Each club has a different mix of cards - which is why some people have memberships in different clubs. And... as long as you **send in** the mail in rebates the memberships will not cost you anything. So that is the program in a nutshell. Now read on to get additional information: There are at least 7 clubs out there. __Athome__, __Athome+__, __Lifestyle Rewards__, __Lifestyle Rewards+__, __Galleria__, __Galleria+__ and __Your Savings Club__ are the ones we know of to date. Search further down this FAQ for information on each club such as what benefits it offers, how to join, etc. There are many more similar clubs in the USA as well for those with Amerifriends (or if you plan to go to the USA for a trip). For details on the USA clubs visit the HUGE dealpass thread on [http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?start=0&catid=24&threadid=468926|fatwallet.com] Read the second post in that thread - it contains a summary of the US clubs. Each club offers slightly different mixes of gift cards. There is a $500 yearly club limit on gift cards from any one retailer. You would be interested in an Athome membership if you shop at The HBC group of stores (The Bay, Designer Depot, Home Outfitters, Zellers) as it offers $500 maximum annual gift cards for each of those outlets ($2,000 annual limit per membership for all 4 stores - and the cards are interchangable between stores). If you like to eat out at restuarants - take the Lifestyle Rewards membership as it has cards for Red Lobster, The Keg, Olive Garden and so on. You would want a Galleria membership if you liked to shop at Birks or Mark's Work Warehouse. You may very well want to have memberships in up to 7 clubs. All clubs offer similar benefits. All have a 30 day no cost trial membership. All refund any unused portion of your membership fee if you cancel. If you cancel you cannot use the same credit card number to re-join so you may want to consider staying in (and using the mail-in rebates) to pay for your membership. There is some negative publicity on the web concerning these clubs. It seems to be from people that joined the club without realizing it and then later on complained when they finally looked at their credit card statement and saw the monthly membership fee being charged. Likely these people clicked 'yes' on a popup link to join the club and did not realize what they were agreeing to. They also never took advantage of the club benefits as otherwise they would have been praising the club - not complaining about it. The following section provides information for existing club members. Information about what the clubs are and how to join them follows this section. __Cards for Cards Section__ Some retailers (such as some Petro Canada stations) sell gift cards for other retailers (such as Home Depot) and they allow you to use PC gift cards to buy the other gift cards. This allows you to in effect exchange cards from one retailer for another. This section will list who sells what - please add to it as you find out what each retailer sells (provided you can use gift cards from the original retailer to buy other's gift cards). Retailer Cards Sold Petro Canada Home Depot, LaSenza, Blacks Cameras, Blockbuster, Earls, Astral Photo Retailers that do not presently sell other retailer cards Canadian Tire Home Hardware HBC (Designer Depot, The Bay, Zellers, Home Outfitters) Sears ! ~~#FF0000:__FAQ Information__~~ __Out Of Stock Cards__ Please update this section as you find cards are out of stock - or - come back into stock. Everything appears to be in stock as of Aug 29. Check out [http://wenwenweiwei.com/MW/AtHome.php|m85d1's table] showing the benefits of the various signup methods and what is in/out of stock. If you find the English version of a card is out of stock - call and ask the CSR if they have French versions of teh card. e.g. - The 'HBC' family cards are all interchangable - meaning when you order The Bay, Home Outfitters, Designer Depot or Zellers gift cards - in either English or French versions - you get the same HBC gift card - which can be used at any of those stores. I know it makes no sense - just like the rest of this program - but just go with the flow. __What is an AVR System?__ The (for some of us) annoying 'push 1 for this and 2 for that' telephone system that can be used to order gift cards. __What is a CSR?__ A Customer Service Representative. Some are more knowledgable than others. When you get a 'good one' - try to find out what additional, undocumented, benefits the club has & post that information here. Every so often they add a new feature & we wnat to ensure that feature is described here. So be sure to ask the CSR if they know of any new program benefits - and if you are told of any - please update this FAQ. __Why would I want to buy Gift Cards at full retail price?__ In the first few days of the next month following purchase, you get ===20% of the gift card value=== credited to your credit card by the club - provided you are still an active member in the club. Note: DO NOT cancel your membership until you have the rebates credited to your account. The clubs all sell you gift cards for retailers as described in the table at the end of this post. You order the gift cards either through the club web site or over the phone. You pay for the gift cards, at full face value using a credit card. The gift cards are mailed (or for OVER $350, Purolater couriered) to you with no shipping charge. For Purolater couriered gift cards, you can expect them to arrive within 4 business days (or less). Reconcile the cards you received against what you ordered. There is no invoice or packing slip enclosed so hopefully you wrote down what you had ordered. Sometimes cards are out of stock - in that case your envelope will not have the out of stock cards - they will be sent out when the cards are back in stock (all the more reason for you to keep track of what you ordered & what you received). __Does the web site or AVR system list all the available gift cards?__ No but they are getting better. Your best bet is to see the lists below of all the available gift cards and call in to talk to a CSR and order through them. While you are talking to them - ask if they have any new retailers in the program & if so - update the table - Click on the following link to see the summary table of gift cards ((Memberworks Card Summary)). Ordering through the web site is fine as long as the gift cards you want are listed there. Ordering through the AVR system for cards from different stores is a pain as the system did each order as a new transaction - so I had to re-enter my credit card number for each store. It would be nice if they could get the web site, the AVR system and the CSR's all having the same information....() __Can I sign up, order tons of gift cards, then cancel my membership within the 30 day free trial period to save me the membership fee?__ Yes, you can cancel your membership - __but be warned__, you have to have an ===active membership=== when they process your rebates the following month after purchase - so you could lose your rebates if you cancel too early. Might we suggest it would be better to stay in as a member and take advantage of the various mail-in rebates offered through the year that will MORE THAN pay for your membership (for Athome, break even for Lifestyles, pay part of Galleria) if you send them all in. Other considerations are that ordering a bunch of gift cards all at once can drain your credit card in a hurry and it was reported that once you cancel you cannot use the same credit card to re-join (although I think this is no longer valid if you use an online method of signing up. Better to order the gift cards only when you intend to use them. __I need to buy an item today as it is on sale but do not have the gift cards as I forgot to order them or they are out of stock. Can I use my credit card to buy the item today and then come back next week with the gift cards to do a return - repurchase?__ Some retailers let you 'return' the item and then let you re-purchase it using your gift cards. I suggest checking with the retailer before you make the purchase to ensure that, when you do get your gift cards in, you will be able to bring the original receipt in, have them credit the purchase back onto your credit card and then re-bill the purchase (with the same discounts if any) onto the gift cards. __Can I use the gift cards for online purchases?__ Some retailers let you 'return' the online puchased item then re-purchase it at the store using gift cards as the payment method. Others do not. Those that do not are: HBC Online (Please fill this in as you find out who allows it & who does not) Those that do are: Staples, Future Shop, Best Buy Note - for Staples online purchases involving coupon codes. Some stores do not allow you to use online coupon codes in store (seeing as you do not have a physical coupon to show them). A redflag member suggests the following procedure might get around it: If your purchase involves an online coupon code (like $20 off $200) - then you should do the order - WITHOUT entering in the coupon code. Wait a couple of days so that the order shipping form will have been printed (this is the form that comes out with your purchase). Now call back to Staples online and have them apply the coupon code to your order. They will do this as a credit to your credit card account. The idea is for them to print the order shipping form showing the order without the coupon code applied. Then, when you bring the order shipping form into the store to reverse the online order off your credit card and re-apply it to your gift cards - they will not raise a stink about the online coupon code. Meanwhile - you still get the coupon code applied. Only thing is - I don't know what might happen when the credit card transaction is reversed - meaning the online system might spot this and reverse out the coupon credit as well - but apparently this method has worked - so far. __I hear the gift cards are in small denominations - usually $25 each card. Can I have the store combine the cards into one larger denomination card?__ Yes, no and maybe. Each store is different, and sometimes you get inexperienced store staff that will not know how to do it even if it is possible. In some cases you may be better to try getting the cards combined at the customer service counter, while at others, like Home Depot, combining at a cashier is easy - if slightly time consuming. The following is what we know about store card combination policies: Some stores allow you to buy a larger denomination gift card with payment through gift cards. e.g. buy a $200 gift card with 8 $25 gift cards. Note this takes about 30 seconds per gift card redemption - so if you are buying a $200 gift card with 8 $25 cards you are looking at about 4 minutes time to do it. This can win you friends () if the store is busy. Some store cashiers will have a FIT if you ask them to 'combine gift cards'. The following procedure works for me: Arrive at the store and walk up to any cashier. ~~#FF0000:You: Hi, do you sell gift cards?~~ Cashier: Yes we do. ~~#FF0000:You: Can I buy one for $300?~~ Cashier: Certainly. Takes a blank gift card & punches some keys on the register then swipes it. Cashier: That will be $300 please ''Loop:'' ~~#FF0000:You: Hand her one gift card~~ Cashier: Will take the card, (some cashiers will balk here - as they cannot comprehend what you are doing) punch some keys on the register & swipe it. ''Go to Loop'' .. until the new gift card is paid for. How To Consolidate Gift Cards: Note: Max cards allowed per transaction is still being developed - please update as you find out the individual retailer policy. Note that a 'card' can be a $25 card -or - a $500 card that has already been combined. ||Store|Max. Cards Allowed Per Transaction|Procedure BAY THE|10 cards|Buy a gift card and pay for it using smaller ones. BEST BUY|3|Go to Customer Service and ask them to consolidate your cards. STAPLES|No Limit|Buy a gift card and pay for it using smaller ones. ZELLERS|10 cards|Buy a gift card and pay for it using smaller ones. Note: Some Zellers stores hire real 'winners' for cashiers and managers - so you could run into problems. My advice - go to The Bay.|| __What are some things to watch out for in using these programs?__ Guard your gift cards - they are as good as cash and if you lose them - you lose. Check your credit card statement regularly to ensure you get charged and credited the appropriate amounts. Send in and track all the mail-in rebates - they help pay for your membership fee. Keep a list of what cards you ordered and reconcile it against the cards you received to ensure you got what you ordered. Sometimes cards are backordered - make a note of that so you can check back in a couple of weeks if the backordered cards have not arrived. Control your spending habits. One member commented these cards are addictive - and can lead to inappropriate spending. Keep track of what amount you have left on each card. Some cards, like Home Depot allow you to write directly on the card. Most others are too slippery so you will want to use a piece of post-it note stuck to the card on which to write the remaining balance. __The store wants to know where I got all these cards. What do I tell them?__ There is nothing illegal about this - but your answer could result in you spending more time than you had anticipated in explaining the program to them and typically you will get a blank look once you have explained it. To make it easier on both you and the store clerk tell them your friends thought it would be fun to give you a birthday/graduation/wedding/retirement gift in the form of a bunch of gift cards because they knew you always shop at the same store. The clerk will usually nod knowingly and continue on with the transaction. __Issue with some Petro Canada clerks when using multiple cards__ I've had a couple of snags when using multiple prepaid cards at Petro Canada. In one case the clerk emptied out a full $25 card then told me the card had a zero balance. In many others the clerk screws up & spends frantic minutes trying to correct the error. What apparently happens is the clerk swipes the first card and presses the 'Cash' button. According to the Petro Canada station manager - this is incorrect. The clerk is supposed to press the 'Enter' key - which then allows them to swipe a subsequent card. So if you are using multiple Petro Canada cards - you might want to remind the clerk to press ENTER (which is in the middle of the bottom row on their keypad) and not CASH (which is on the far right of the bottom row on their keypad) hopefully they will know what you are taking about). If the clerk does mess up - be sure to keep the card and the cash register receipt - & if possible get the clerk's name. Call P. Canada customer service (phone # is on the back of the card) & if you tell them what happened - they will refund the $ to you & occasionally throw you a treat - like an extra $10 or a free car wash. __Canadian Tire cards - expiry date__ When you empty out a Cdn Tire gift card - its 'expiry date' will suddenly become the next month's. No worry as the card is empty anyway. __Zellers and The Bay Additional Savings__ Zellers offers 10% off the first Monday of each month for those 55 or better. The Bay offers 15% off on the first Tuesday for those 60 or better. You can bring a person along who meets those qualifications & get them to buy the items you need using your gift cards. Zellers also price matches other retailers (not sure about The Bay). The price match can be a flyer, your word, or a bill from the other retailer for the same item. The result is you get the item for the price-matched price, less 10% (or 15% if The Bay does it) then less 20% (gift cards) for a nice net decrease in price. With HBC, Zellers, Designer Depot and Home Outfitters the gift cards are interchangable so you have $2,000 a year per membership to play with. Zellers and The Bay have pharmacies - but do not give you the 10% on prescriptions - however they do give it for non-prescription drugs like Tylenol. If you are buying prescription drugs - note that Zellers will price match other pharmacies if you inform them of the price difference. Also - if you are filling a prescription and paying with gift cards - you are in effect getting 20% back on your purchase - which is a nice bonus (to you) especially if you have a drug plan that picks up all or part of the prescription purchase. __What are the Mail-In Rebates__ Besides the 20% off gift card program, there are a set of mail-in rebates that the clubs offer you... provided, once you are a member that you ===request them either online or by calling in and asking the CSR for them===. Ideally, you would ask for these right after receiving your membership number. Once you mail in your mail-in rebates it is reported that the rebate cheques arrive within 4 weeks of sending them in. This will pay off your membership fee - and more if you send them all in. Photocopies of receipts are usually accepted. You can also "stack" receipts (send in a $10 and a $15 receipt to make it $25) to meet the min. required amount. Don't forget to photocopy all your stuff you mail in - just in case it gets lost in the mail. __BE SURE TO REQUEST THESE REBATES BECAUSE THEY WON'T SEND THEM TO YOU UNTIL YOU REQUEST THEM ONLINE OR CALL AND REQUEST THEM.__ Hint- When you receive the quarterly mail-in rebate forms - they come in a long strip of 4 - but they are not always in sequence by date. So seperate them and sort them into ascending date sequence then staple them together so you don't lose them or like I did - send in the wrong one. Hint - Use a calendar program to auto-remind you of the rebate start dates - so that you don't forget to send in the rebates. __What kind of receipts are they looking for with the mail-in rebates?__ They seem focussed more on the date of the receipt than anything else. So be sure the date is current (within the rebate period and within 30 days of when you mail in the receipt). Although they say they want original receipts they will accept photocopies if you write on the photocopy 'original bill kept for tax (or warranty) purposes'. For home utilities - things like electricity, gas, water, cable, telephone, etc. For home maintenance - any bill from a store related to maintenance - e.g. Home Depot, CTC, the bill from the garden nursery for those spring plants or fall fertilizer. For Outdoor activities - any bill from a golf course, driving range, baseball game, someone sent in a bill for a lawnmower for this one. __What is Final Billing Offer (FBO)?__ All 3 clubs may offer a Final Billing Offer to SOME members. You usually have to ask the CSR if your membership is eligible for that program. Under FBO they charge you one more monthly fee and then don't charge any more monthly fees for the next 12 months (the membership period resets for 12 months from the date of the FBO). The mail-in rebates are still valid so that makes the FBO really a good deal. The one down side is the CSR's have been saying after the 12 month period ends that your membership would be terminated. I kind of think they wll change that policy as it makes no sense to give an incentive to stay in and then to dump the customer. But then again the whole gift card program makes no business sense (except to us - the members) so who knows what is going on in their minds. ! ~~#FF0000:__Important Notes__~~ Mail-in rebates will pay you for your membership - provided you send them in - so don't get put off by the membership fees listed below. Turn OFF your popup blockers before you try to signup. The signup link is sent to you via a popup. To ensure you DO have your popup blockers turned off - try going to a site like [http://www.cnn.com] and it should throw a popup at you as you move around the site. The following are descriptions of the three clubs, and what we know about them: ! ~~#FF0000:__At Home__~~ __Athome Contact Information__ 1-866-847-7885 but don't bother to call them until you have a membership as they only talk to members. Also note that sometimes their computer system takes a few days to show your membership information to the CSR's even though you can login to the website. So you might want to wait a week or so after registering before calling in. Hours for live support are Monday to Friday, 8 AM - 10 PM Eastern Time, Saturday 8 AM - 5 PM. The website is: [http://www.myathome.ca] Enter your Postal Code in CAPS without the middle space meaning R2C3E3 and not r2c3e3 or R2C 3E3 __Who offers memberships - How can I Join?__ Assuming you will want the benefits of both Athome and Lifestyle Rewards, your best bet at this time is to join both Athome and Lifestyle Rewards through a credit card company such as MBNA or Capital 1 as we believe both those methods give you the HD and PC cards that are not available under many other signup methods. __Annual membership through MBNA or monthly membership through Capital 1__ Recent changes with the Vistaprint and other 'referral' signup methods are excluding Petro Canada and Home Depot cards from the program. Fortunately you can still get access to those cards if you sign up through MBNA or Capital 1. You can sign up for Athome (and Lifestyle Rewards) through MBNA or Capital 1 if you have one of their credit cards. The annual membership fee if you sign up through MBNA for the Athome club is $139.95 + tax at the beginning of the first year and $149.95 + tax per year thereafter. Capital 1 is around $14 a month. Similar prices are paid for a Lifestyle Rewards Program membership. Thing is - this method does not get you the $25 bonus Cdn Tire gift card. If you have an MBNA or Capital 1 Master Card - call MBNA or Capital 1 (they have different 1-800 numbers for different MBNA Master Cards - see the back of your Master Card for your applicable 1-800 number). After you get to a CSR, ask them to see if you qualify for joining the Athome program & that you would like to join it. They will read you a script on the benefits & costs of the program. The program comes with a 30 day trial after which you will be charged the full yearly membership. __Joining Athome and Lifestyle Rewards Through Vistaprint, Freeipods or Allposters__ We don't recommend joining with these referral sites as recent changes with the Vistaprint free ipods and allposters 'referral' signup methods are excluding Petro Canada (PC) and Home Depot (HD) cards from the program. Apparently you can still get PC and HD cards from the At Home membership (but not the Lifestyle Rewards program) offered through the Red Flag Referral link. Here is the method for signing up from vistaprint - but remember - Vistaprint memberships do not have PC and HD cards. Similar signup methods are followed if you take the Red Flag Signup link. Go to [http://www.vistaprint.ca] and buy the lowest priced useful item you can find on the site. Use a credit card for payment (not paypal). The lowest priced item is typically return address labels that the site quite often has on for free for 140 of them - with a less than $5 charge for shipping. Watch as you check out as their system will try to sell you faster shipping for the item (there is a radio button to select the lower priced shipping option) and they will also try to get you to buy other items (Which you don't need if all you want is to get in the clubs). The site will throw you a popup to join Athome AND Lifestyle Rewards just after you complete your purchase. The membership cost per club will be $12.95 per month (tax included). Take BOTH offers seeing as you will end up with: * A membership in Athome * A membership in Lifestyle Rewards (See below for details on that club) * A $25 gift card from Canadian Tire for each club (meaning $50 in gift cards) * Two monthly membership fees of $12.95 + tax each * Mail-in rebates for both clubs that will pay you more than the total membership fees - if you send them in * Access to a TON of gift cards If you have a VISA card - use it to make your vistaprint purchase as it gives you a 25% discount on your order. When you are at the vistaprint site - Do not close any windows down - as these windows /popups may contain information you will need. As you complete your checkout, it will offer you to take a 'short survey to get a $25 CTC gift card'. Fill in the email address you used earlier when you made your vistaprint order and it will display your Athome membership number on the screen. Print that screen off (or write down the member number) as the Athome membership package will not be mailed to you for a couple of weeks - but you can immediately login to their website or call them to buy the gift cards. You may as well call them and get yourself to a live CSR so you can ask that they mail out your mail-in rebate forms. After you have completed your Athome signup & have your membership number - you can join the Lifestyles program by going back to the window where your purchase summary is listed. At the bottom of that window there will be two 'click here for your bonus' buttons. Click on either button (they both take you to the same page) - and sign up for Lifestyles. As of May, 2006 the Lifestyles membership information is emailed to you so you do not get your membership number immediately on screen like you did with the Athome membership. Some are also mentioning that, even with popups enabled - they are not getting the survey page. Dunno why- my guess is they have multiple popup blockers blocking the popups.... __How long will it take to get my membership information?__ With the [http://www.vistaprint.ca|vistaprint.ca] option you will get your member number immediately for the Athome club - while with the MBNA or Capital 1 route of signing up there is a delay of (at least) 3 weeks before you will get anything in the mail from the Athome program. You can try calling At Home after a couple of days and they may have you in their system. What you want to get from them is your 'membership number' - which you need to order gift cards either online or from the AVR telephone system. __What are the Mail-In Rebates__ __One Time Rebate__ With an Athome signup through [http://www.vistaprint.ca/|vistaprint.ca] or some of the other referral sites - a $25 Canadian Tire Gift Card if you: * send in a request card that comes with your membership package * fill the survey form in when it is sent to you & finally * send the survey form back. __Once a year Rebates__ Locksmith / Lock / Locked Out of Car/Home- Send in a bill from a locksmith (or a bill from a store for a lock) with a cost of over $50 and they send you a rebate for $50. (can be ordered via their web site). __Quarterly Rebates__ Home Utilities -------- $15 off $30 min. purchase. Potential of 4*$15=$60 annually. (can be ordered via their web site). Home Maintenance --- $15 off $30 min. purchase. Potential of 4*$15=$60 annually. (can be ordered via their web site). **You have to call in to get this rebate sent to you. Gas --- $10 first quarter, $20 second quarter, $30 third quarter, $40 fourth quarter for car gas or home decorating receipts. Potential of $100 annually. **Note that you can MAKE $120.00 a year AND pay for your approx. $150 annual membership by sending in all the mail-in rebates. The total amount of possible annual mail-in rebates are: Locksmith/Lock $50.00 Home Utilities $60.00 Home Maintenance $60.00 Gas/H. Decorating $100.00 Total $270.00 a year Plus the $25 Cdn Tire gift card in the first year if you signed up through [http://www.vistaprint.ca|vistaprint.ca] __Monthly Rebates__ Grocery Rebate - This is not offered anymore - but some people who signed up under the telemarketing calls from MBNA or CITIBank got it. Now, aren't you sorry you blocked those telemarketing calls? Grocery $10 off $25 min. purchase (every month, up to $120 annually) __Throughout the year Rebates__ The CSR said he can re-issue these many times during the year. Petro Canada Certigard Save $25 for every $100 of labour at Certigard stations. No apparent upper limit - so a nice 25% savings awaits you if you drive a repair prone vehicle. Also get an extra 20% discount if you use your Petro Canada gift cards to pay for the repair. Petro Canada Certigard Get $10 off a $50 oil change / 40 point car inspection. Also get an extra 20% discount if you use your Petro Canada gift cards to pay for the inspection. Note: Check with your PetroCanada Certigard station beforehand to ensure they are participating in this program. Some Certigard stations apparently do not participate. __Other Benefits__ One free magazine (Canadian Living, Ski Canada, Fitness, Family Circle, Flare, etc.). As a member you also get a free security system from Microtec Securi-T valued at up to $999. The security system will require you to subscribe to monthly monitoring for $26.95 a month with a 5 year minimum committment - so check out the total cost to see if this is of value to you. (can now be ordered via their web site) A 'home repair hotline' run by a company called Sigmaassist at the toll free number 1-866-611-8899 (they have a different phone # for Montreal) to ask questions related to home repair, referral to emergency repair or locksmith 24 hours a day. The CSR will take your information and pass it onto a local company they are associated with (like a plumbing company for plumbing questions) to call you back (how long they take to call you back is unknown). So the advice would be free - but any subsequent repair person coming out to your home would be at a cost. This is the same number used for the Lifestyle Rewards 'nurse hotline' available to Lifestyle Rewards members. A free keytag program - where they send you a numbered keytag that you put on your keyring. If your keys are found - the finder can just drop them in the mailbox & they are sent to At Home, who, in turn, couriers them back to you. Plus 20% off gift cards. The website is: [http://www.lifestylerewards.ca] Enter your postal code without the middle space and in all CAPS meaning R3X3W3 and not r3x3w3 or R3X 3W3 __Who offers memberships - How can I Join?__ Assuming you will want the benefits of both Athome and Lifestyle Rewards, your best bet at this time is to join both Athome and Lifestyle Rewards through a credit card company such as MBNA or Capital 1 as we believe both those methods give you the HD and PC cards that are not available under many other signup methods. Memberships are available through MBNA for $99.95 per year and through Capital 1 for a monthly fee of I believe $17 a month + tax. Be sure to take both the Lifestyle Rewards and At Home memberships as both give you access to PC and HD gift cards. MBNA issues Master Card credit cards for a number of companies & organisations including CAA, Molson's 'I Am Canadian' and Canadian Tire (but not the CTC 'Options' card). Look at the back of your credit card or monthly statement for the letters MBNA. That will tell you it is an MBNA issued credit card. Desjardins used to be a participant but is no longer. What you do is call MBNA (they have different 1-800 numbers for different MBNA Master Cards - see the back of your MBNA Master Card for your applicable 1-800 number). After you get to a CSR, tell them you would like to join the MBNA Lifestyle Rewards program. They will read you a script on the benefits & costs of the program. The program comes with a 30 day trial after which you will be charged the full yearly membership. There is a similar program for Capital 1 credit card holders. That program is a monthly membership. We no longer recommend signing up through one of the referral sites such as [http://lavalife.com], and [http://allposters.com] for $12.95 per month (tax included) as those sites no longer offer access to PC and HD cards. There is also a referral link on Red Flag Deals for $17.95 a month. As of July, 2006 this is a better option for those without MBNA or Capital 1 credit cards as this signup method will get you both a Lifestyle Rewards membership and an At Home membership. That At Home membership will have both HD and PC cards - but the Lifestyle Rewards program will not have PC or HD cards. That is why we recommend signing up through MBNA or Capital 1. __How do I join Lifestyle Rewards through [http://allposters.com]?__ Go to the [http://www.allposters.com] site by typing the site address in your address bar (don't take the link to it from the redflagdeals site)and select an item to purchase. The lowest price item is usually a fridge magnet or clearance item. They usually have a 20% or higher discount coupon available - the coupon info. is sometimes posted at the [http://redflagdeals.ca] site. When you have selected your item, go to the checkout and opt to pay by credit card (not paypal). Make sure your browser allows 'popups' for this site. As you complete your checkout, watch on the left hand side of the screen, towards the bottom for an offer to take a 'short survey to get a $25 CTC gift card'. Take that link as that is the link to get you into the Lifestyle Rewards program. You have to re-enter some information, such as your credit card # and address - and if all goes according to plan, you should get your Lifestyles membership number on the screen. Print that screen off as the Lifestyle Rewards membership package will not be mailed to you for a couple of weeks - but you can immediately login to their website or call them to buy the gift cards. You should call them and get yourself to a live CSR so you can ask that they mail out your mail-in rebate forms. Also this signup method no longer gets you PC or HD cards. __What about joining Lifestyle Rewards through [http://lavalife.com]?__ From what we hear - you have to join [http://lavalife.com] to be offered the Lifestyle Rewards membership. Can anyone confirm this? Also this signup method no longer gets you PC or HD cards. The benefit of signing up through [http://allposters.com] or [http://lavalife.com] is that you get your membership number and thus the ability to order gift cards immediately. The downside is you have to buy an item that will cost you a minimum of $12CDN. An additional downside to using [http://lavalife.com] to join up (if you have a significant other) is that you may have to explain to them why you became a member of a dating service(). Also this signup method no longer gets you PC or HD cards. __What are the Mail-In Rebates?__ __One Time Rebate__ With a signup through [http://www.vistaprint.ca/|vistaprint.ca] or some of the other referral sites - a $25 Canadian Tire Gift Card if you: * send in a request card that comes with your membership package * fill the survey form in when it is sent to you & finally * send the survey form back. __Throughout the year Rebates__ The CSR said he can re-issue these many times during the year. Places like Universal Studios, Busch Gardens, any Canadian Theme Park (like Tinkertown in Winnipeg). Potential of 4*$15=$60 annually. Outdoor Activity - $15 each quarter for a receipt of at least $25 for outdoor activities - such as golfing, skiing, camping (or buying a lawnmower to get exercise or towels to wipe yourself down after an outdoor activity - these really went through!). Potential of 4*$15=$60 annually. **You have to call in to get this rebate sent to you. Gas Rebate $10 off $25 min. purchase. Potential of 4*$10=$40 annually. No longer offered rebates: * Grocery Rebates $15 off $25 min. purchase. Potential of 4*$15=$60 annually. (Sept/05 update - looks like only Hotel/Motel is now offered. Jan/06 update - Only the Gas rebate was offered). They say a nurse may be available to immediately answer your questions -or- you may have to leave a message & the nurse will call you back. *** New: This seems very hokey - but if it works for you - then fine. The Lifestyle Rewards web page says '15% off US theme parks in Florida and California'. Call Member Savings at 1-800-847-7860. The CSR will transfer you to (on average through 2 people) with you finally ending up at their travel agency that handles these. You order vouchers for multiple days at least a month in advance for the EXACT dates you plan to use them (but they claim the vouchers are good for a variable period of time after date of issue for ...up to... 45 days) for adults & children. They sometimes have you see a set of brochures at: http://www.holidayhouse.ca/brochures/cityEscapes.asp When I called - they did not have Florida listed and the web site showed buy one get one - not 15% off .... so who knows. The whole thing smells to me... Plus 20% off gift cards. Click on the following link to see the summary table of gift cards ((Memberworks Card Summary)). Plus the following gift cards: 12 x $24.99 each (25% off the regular retail price) * Cineplex Galaxy Combo Tickets (Tickets are valid through the last day of the month punched.) * Famous Players Famous Night Out Coupons (Famous Night Out coupons are valid for up to two years from the date of issuance shown on the coupon. Signing up for this plus program is done as described in [http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92936|Felix's first post] at redflagdeals.com. Look for: RFD direct sign up (LifeStyle+/At Home). You may also see banner ads on hotmail or other popular online sites. Once you sign up - you will be given the option to also take out an At Home membership. I'd suggest you take them up on that membership as the At Home membership is the 'full' one - meaning it has all the regular At Home retailers - including Petro Canada and Home Depot gift cards at $500 each per year. Once you sign up they will send you an email the following day with your member number and the link to the web site. Enter your postal code without the middle space and in all CAPS meaning R3X3W3 and not r3x3w3 or R3X 3W3 The phone number to order cards is 1-866-847-7540. Be careful when calling in to the telephone number to order cards as with the Plus program it is not auto ordering - instead you get to a CSR & some of them assume you called because you wanted to cancel your membership. So be sure at your first opportunity when talking to them to let them know you are calling to order cards (or to request FBO) to ensure they don't start the cancellation process. This is especially true when you hit a CSR who is not fully versed in English or French. Also note that sometimes their computer system takes a few days to show your membership information to the CSR's even though you can login to the website. So you might want to wait a week or so after registering before calling in. The plus website looks very similar to the regular Lifestylerewards website. The plus monthly membership fee is $1 signup and then $17.95 a month - but you can call in to request Final Billing Offer (FBO) to eliminate this fee. FBO is described in a previous section of this FAQ. This plus program is very similar to the regular Lifestyle Rewards program with the following exceptions: The plus program limits you to buying 5 gift cards per retailer per month. This differs from the regular program where you could buy the entire limit of $500 in one shot. One exception is Home Hardware - the plus website allows you to order $500 in cards. The plus program allows you to buy up to 30 cards per retailer per year. So in the end you get more cards (as the regular program limits you to 20 cards per retailer) - but they are spread out over the year. The plus program does not have mail-in rebates listed on the program website - although some members have described being able to call in and get a $60 mail-in rebate. I'll get more information on this when I know what it is. Note though - if you get FBO then this program is not costing you much anyway. When you sign up you are eligible for a $25 Cdn Tire gift card. This requires you to click on a link found in your welcoming email that takes you to a page on the plus program webiste where you request a form to be sent to you. Once you fill in the form and send it back you will get the $25 Cdn Tire gift card. ! ~~#FF0000:__Galleria__~~ 1-888-522-9808 but don't bother to call them until you have a membership as they only talk to members. For MBNA - call MBNA (they have different 1-800 numbers for different MBNA Master Cards - see the back of your MBNA Master Card for your applicable 1-800 number). After you get to a CSR, tell them that 'a friend told you about the MBNA Galleria program' & that you would like to join it. They will read you a script on the benefits & costs of the program. The program comes with a 30 day trial after which you will be charged the full yearly membership. If you are signing up through this method you may also want to get an Athome and or Lifestyle Rewards membership at the same time seeing as those will have HD and PC cards. There is a delay of (at least) 3 weeks before you will get anything in the mail from the Galleria program. __What are the Mail-In Rebates?__ With a signup through [http://www.vistaprint.ca/|vistaprint.ca] or some of the other referral sites - a $25 Canadian Tire Gift Card if you: * send in a request card that comes with your membership package * fill the survey form in when it is sent to you & finally * send the survey form back. __Quarterly Rebates__ Groceries OR Dining Rebates -- $15 off $25 min. purchase.
